Description the services/solution: Newcytech offered a solution based on the IBM V7000 Gen2 for both the production and secondary sites of JCC. As part of the services provided, Newcytech was involved in the H/W installation, configuration, and also the creation of the Hyperswap configuration on the V7000.

Client’s Pain Point: JCC Payment Systems decided to renew its aging storage infrastructure with a solution which would have significant performance and availability benefits compared to their previous infrastructure. The primary objective was to be able to run business operations more efficiently and at the same time, reduce operational cost. Furthermore, they needed to implement an active/active datacentre solution as far as the storage infrastructure was concerned, to meet business continuity needs as specified by JCC’s business units.

Description of the Solution Provided: To begin the project, several meetings were conducted with the IT department of JCC. During the meetings several of the advantages of the IBM V7000 Gen2+ system and the HyperSwap solution, for the datacentre active/active implementation, were introduced to the customer. Specific blueprints for the exact configuration based on the customers’ existing infrastructure were drafted, and detailed migration plans were agreed to.  The final solution was based on 2x V7000 Gen2+ systems, one at each site connected through FC/IP routers. Between the two sites, the HyperSwap solution was implemented using existing and new fibre channel switches for the creation of the required public and private networks needs of the HyperSwap solution.  At a third external site a quorum server was configured in order to control the Hyperswap cluster.  The virtualization technology used was based on VMware’s VSphere infrastructure.
